Witchcraft isn’t modern, and it goes far beyond spell jars, cauldron fires, magickal accouterments, esthetics, witches’ attire, and cackling with our brooms.

And it isn’t always about pretty baubles and decadent-smelling oils. But I sure love it when it is.

Witchcraft is a way of life. An embodiment. It is an unspoken essence. It is Mysticry on a cellular level. It is a FEELING and a BEING.

Magick Is A Frequency

And with that, the regular, mundane aspects of life are still within the witchcraft. Messy, unorganized, unpositive, and unhappy.

Witchcraft doesn’t discern right or wrong. Good or bad.

But it does discern intention and the frequency you are on.

The words you speak, the energy you exude and carry. Magick will follow you no matter what energy field you are in and mirror that back to you with what life gives you.

Be wise with this power you hold.

Magick is sometimes hidden spells left in the woods or something grounding placed in your office or tucked inside your bra.

Plant medicine disguised as pretty flower gardens.

Crystals and rocks disguised as décor or jewelry.

Or cottages of sage women crushing herbs and stewing potions, or what we call, cooking a feast, and sometimes, at least with My Mystic Sisters, it’s at a condo away with other mystics who want to play, relax, let their bellies out, tell off the cusp jokes, and eat too much chocolate and loads of gluten-infused bread.

And Magick is also about gathering around the fire to ritual, drum, sing, dance, celebrate, and BEing in community while being your truest, potent self.

Unabashedly shameless and rooted in your essence.

The word witch has been given a bad name over the years, and as we honor ancestors past, please bow to the women who burned in vain for the crafts, medicine, and healing that many of us partake of and dabble in today…. and are doing right now. Freely.

And also a bow for the women who were doing none of those things; they simply owned property, they were strong and educated women who held prominent roles within their community, teachers, shop owners, farmers, and so on. As so many of us are today as well.

And do it Outwardly and Unapologetically.

The Witch Wound is an inherited, collective trauma that is rooted in the dark history of the Burning Times, and manifests as a fear of being seen, speaking up, and stepping into your full magick and power.

The Witch Wound is a psychological and spiritual wound carried by women who have been taught to fear their power, or the power of feminine energy.

The Witch Wound can come from past lives, childhood, or subconscious programming from our families, culture, institutions, or education.

It manifests in many ways: fear of being seen and heard, sharing our talents and gifts, tension with other women, unwillingness to own your part in conflict with other women, feeling that our power, or that of another woman, is unsafe.

And it can also come in quiet side conversations between women, about other women, by women who are afraid to have humble, open conversations with each other amidst conflict, confusion, or dissatisfaction.

There is a little witch and wounding in all women.

It is a Lineage.

If you or your ancestors immigrated here, and I think most of ours did, you likely have the witch and the wound embedded inside, whether from your lineage who may have suffered or from your lineage who may be persecuted.

The fear of being persecuted or the persecutor is still alive, and still wounding centuries later.

All women are healers; all women are naturally born with an ability to create magick.

No need to fear this label or term; it’s just a word with centuries of misunderstood context placed around it.

Know that you are a mystery unfolding, and the mystic, goddess, witch, hippie, curious observer inside of you desires for you to understand your right to own a piece of your HERstory.

Be wise and discerning of your teachers, your community, and your witch sisters with whom you circle with.

Learn who you are. Learn who you are not.

You will find this within a circle of women.

Circle Conflict Etiquette: Not all circles or facilitators will resonate with you. While unfortunate, it is not uncommon to take time to find a space that you feel held.

If the space you find yourself in doesn’t feel safe or is not in resonance with you or your needs, reflect on that internally and why.

  • If it’s a space with a facilitator (biz, spiritual, clubs, etc.), have a private conversation with them first. There could easily be a resolution, and they hold the container.
  • Not doing this 1st creates discord and fragmentation for the entire container and is outside of circle ethics.
  • If it is within a friendship/social group, have a conversation with the group or the person you are having conflict with first. Friendships should not be conditional; they should be the space that holds you softly in your good times and your mess, but unfortunately, they do not always.

If it doesn’t resolve, find a new space that exudes and holds you in the sacredness of truth, your essence, and empowers you to be all of who you really are.

If you are new to being a witch, or it is just coming to your heart, I welcome you here. And you are safe.
